Waypoint Mental Health Centre: IPV Storytelling for Change
Scope
Event photography | Event montage video | Graphic recording timelapse | Simplistic photo booth | Marketing assets
Overview
Waypoint engaged us to capture Storytelling for Change, a community-led, art-inspired event designed to amplify lived experience and reimagine how stories of IPV are shared. The event structure integrated dialogue, performance, and graphic recording, creating a powerful and participatory atmosphere.
Our role was to document this gathering in a way that reflected both its community spirit and its research-informed vision — generating media assets that could be shared immediately while also serving as long-term storytelling tools.
Creative Roles
I served as producer and videographer for the project, leading capture and production workflows. Photographer Reece Kloosterman provided full event photo coverage as well as operating a simplistic photo booth for attendees. With a lean two-person team, we were able to provide professional coverage while remaining unobtrusive and responsive to the event’s flow.
Approach
Given the event’s modest budget and community-driven design, our approach emphasized flexibility and efficiency. We prioritized capturing authentic engagement across dialogue sessions, artistic performances, and interactive activities.
In addition to documenting the event itself, we integrated value-added media capture: a timelapse video of the live graphic recording, a simplified photo booth for attendees, and a rush delivery of select photos to support immediate communications.
Outcome
Delivered assets included:
- Online photo booth album for attendees to access and share
- Rush photo set within 24 hours to support post-event communications
- Full-resolution event photos (optimized for web and print)
- Event montage video combining highlights, participant insights, and key themes
- Timelapse video documenting the live graphic recording process
This media suite provided Waypoint with both immediate engagement tools and a longer-term archive of visuals and insights — extending the reach of the IPV event far beyond the day itself and supporting its mission to shift the conversation through art, stories, and community.
