Overview
Valleys is a six-episode web series that follows Amy, a young cancer survivor, and her best friend Annie as they embark on a life-changing rafting expedition through the Grand Canyon. Alongside the breathtaking landscapes and adrenaline-filled rapids, the series captures deeply personal conversations between Amy, her family, and her caregivers—offering a raw and empathetic look at life during and after cancer.
My Contribution
Brought on as Second Camera Unit, I worked locally in Canada to film intimate interviews and lifestyle footage before the expedition. I also joined the production in the Grand Canyon, capturing environmental shots, time lapse, river sequences, and candid moments on location.
The challenge was balancing cinematic imagery with authentic documentary intimacy—ensuring the human stories remained at the forefront while supporting them with compelling visual storytelling.
Impact
The series was developed in partnership with the Survive & Thrive Cancer Programs, founded by Mike Lang, to foster better understanding and open communication between survivors, their loved ones, and caregivers.
The project reached audiences across North America, offering both inspiration and practical insight into the survivorship journey.
