Type 1 Diabetes and Pregnancy Web Series (2015)
Scope
Multi-episode web series | Documentary storytelling | Patient and expert interviews
Overview
Commissioned by the Type 1 Diabetes Think Tank Network, this series follows the journey of a patient living with Type 1 Diabetes as she navigates the complex medical, emotional, and lifestyle considerations of planning for and experiencing pregnancy. Designed as a resource for both patients and healthcare professionals, the episodes combine intimate, first-person narratives with insights from endocrinologists, obstetricians, and diabetes educators.
Creative Roles
As Director and Producer, I oversaw all aspects of the series — from story development and on-location production to post-production and final delivery. This included building trust with the subject and medical contributors, ensuring medical accuracy, and shaping the narrative flow across multiple short episodes optimized for web distribution.
Approach
Filmed in natural, everyday environments, the series pairs candid patient storytelling with clinical expertise, allowing viewers to connect emotionally while gaining practical knowledge. We maintained a respectful, unobtrusive style that encouraged openness, while using concise editing and visual pacing to hold audience attention in an online format.
Outcome
The completed series provided a widely accessible educational tool for the Type 1 Diabetes community. Shared through the Think Tank’s digital channels and partner networks, it has supported patients, families, and care providers in understanding the unique considerations of pregnancy with T1D. The project remains a strong example of blending lived experience with expert guidance to create meaningful, relatable health content.
