CAPMR and Choosing Wisely Canada – Recommendation Animation Series
Scope
Animated explainer series | Motion graphics | Newspaper-style animation
Overview
CAPMR (Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) partnered with Choosing Wisely Canada to produce a series of short animations promoting seven clinical recommendations related to PM&R practice. The objective was to create accessible, engaging digital tools that support evidence-based decision-making among healthcare professionals.
Creative Roles
I led creative direction, animation, and post-production across the full series. Working closely with CAPMR’s clinical committee, we adapted the production process to fit a modest budget — reassigning certain responsibilities internally and extending the timeline to accommodate collaborative input. Initially envisioned using Choosing Wisely’s full brand toolkit, we shifted toward a more flexible visual strategy using motion graphics, text, and curated stock imagery.
Approach
To balance clarity with cost-efficiency, we adopted a newspaper-inspired animation style. This design choice emphasized key messages through restrained movement, clean iconography, and typographic pacing. The creative pivot allowed us to maintain strong narrative impact while working without original footage or supplied visuals. Close coordination with the committee ensured accuracy and tone alignment throughout.
Outcome
All seven videos were delivered for digital deployment through CAPMR and Choosing Wisely Canada. Each concise animation distills a key recommendation into a clear, easily shareable format — designed to increase adoption and spark thoughtful conversations about appropriate care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. The series is a strong example of how strategic design choices and flexible collaboration can deliver high-value outcomes on a limited budget.
