Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH): Youth Mood Animation Series
Scope
Whiteboard animation | Mental health education | Youth engagement
Overview
Commissioned by CAMH, this animated series supports youth mental health literacy by exploring why mood matters and the factors that affect it. Developed in collaboration with youth contributors, the project focused on making mental health conversations more relatable, visual, and accessible.
Creative Roles
Directed and produced by Eamonn O’Connell, including concept development, custom character design, script supervision, animation, and editing. Graphic facilitator Erica Bota was brought on to deliver the visual illustrations, creating a unique whiteboard style tailored to youth audiences.
Approach
The series blends youth-recorded voiceovers with hand-drawn whiteboard animation. We leaned into an honest, conversational tone that avoids over-scripting—centering real youth perspectives and visual storytelling that demystifies mental health.
Outcome
These animations have been used across CAMH’s digital platforms and in community-facing mental health workshops. The series continues to serve as a welcoming on-ramp to mental health dialogue for young people.
